KEY THEMES FOR 2009

New - Doing More with Less

Internal auditors haven’t escaped the impact of the current financial crisis.  A common concern is doing more with less.  Budgets have been slashed but demands on internal audit to add value and deliver effective assurance have never been higher.

To this end, the 2009 Euro IACON programme will provide case study presentations on how other organisations are dealing with this dilemma.

1.      Maurice Goddard, Chief Operating OfficerGroup-Wide Internal Audit, Prudential will look at how internal audit can respond to the challenges of the economic situation.

2.      James Paterson, Vice President Group Internal Audit will give an insight into what’s been done at AstraZeneca.  He will give an open presentation on how they’ve transformed the audit department to do more with less resources.

New - Dealing with a Pandemic…

Plus, no-one could have avoided the threat of swine flu. Malcolm Zack, Head of Internal Audit at Brakes Group will be discussing how they prepared for and dealt with the outbreak of a pandemic.  He will look at lessons to be learnt and tips for how to deal with future outbreaks.

New - Practical Skills Sessions

This year we will also be including more practical presentations.  Hearing the theory is all well and good but we thought it’d be better to include some more practical ‘how to’ sessions to provide you with tools & tips that you can actually implement back in the office.  This will include sessions on:

·        Auditing major projects

·        Spreadsheet risk management

·        How to audit outsourced operations

·        Managing the risks associated with third parties

·        Auditing for smaller departments/companies

"

IACON is a "must" for internal audit & risk professionals committed to continuous improvement through the sharing of best practices

Paul Shantz, Head of Internal Audit, NCB CAPITAL

"

Over the years the IACON programme has established itself in the calendars of leading risk & audit professionals.  It consistently addresses topics of relevance to the profession and the experience of the presenters inevitably results in delegates drawing benefit from the conference and taking away ideas to improve their business.

David Law, Chief Risk Officer, OLYMPIC DELIVERY AUTHORITY

Plus:

Interactive Workshops

And don’t miss the opportunity to attend these workshops:

Our workshops are designed to enable you to look at the specific topic in more depth, they provide opportunity for discussion and debate as well as the chance to learn from the experts.

Workshop #1:

The Integrated Assurance Framework

The practicalities of bringing together Risk, Compliance, Audit & Governance

Led by: Independent Audit

This workshop will explore new ways of reengineering the assurance operating model, so that value and synergies can be unlocked.  Particular topics that will be covered include:

·        Explanation of an integrated assurance framework and the benefits it brings

·        Practical techniques for putting an integrated assurance framework into practice

·        Options for extending the framework to cover fraud and external audit

Workshop #2:

Practical Measures to Prevent Fraud

Implementing Internal Controls to Prevent Your Organisation Becoming A Victim Of Fraud

Led by: Ian Henderson, Managing Director, ADVANCED FORENSICS

The current economic climate means that all organisations need to focus on preventing and detecting fraud. This prevention and detection workshop day will provide you with the practical tools necessary to prevent fraud from occurring as well as to successfully investigate fraud should it actually arise.

The programme will follow a step by step fraud action and response plan, highlighting areas of weakness within your own organisation. This programme content is of paramount importance to anyone involved with reviewing internal controls or conducting fraud investigations. Not only will you be led through the first steps to take when you think you may have become a victim of fraud but it will also provide you with a comprehensive insight into the latest technologies available for forensic investigation.
